SMS/Text Messaging Privacy Policy
Idahoans United for Women & Families
Last updated: September 3, 2026
1. About this policy
This policy explains how Idahoans United for Women & Families ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, protects, and shares information in connection with our text messaging (SMS/MMS) program supporting Idaho Proposition 1.
The sender of all messages under this program is Idahoans United for Women & Families. Your consent to receive messages from us applies only to us. It does not extend to any other organization, committee, campaign, or affiliate.
2. Information we collect
Through our text messaging program we may collect:
Mobile phone number
Name, when you provide it
ZIP code, city, or address, when you provide it or when it is associated with your voter registration record
Message content you send to us, and our replies
Message metadata — delivery status, timestamps, opt-in and opt-out records, and message frequency
Response data — how you answered a question we asked (for example, whether you support Proposition 1, want a volunteer shift, or requested more information)
Contribution information, if you make a donation in response to a message. Idaho law requires us to collect and publicly report certain donor information (see Section 8).
We do not collect precise geolocation data through this program.
3. How we obtain your mobile number and your consent
We obtain mobile numbers in the following ways:
You text a keyword to us (for example, texting a keyword to our published number)
You submit a web form on our website that includes a clearly labeled consent checkbox for text messages
You sign a paper form at an event, a canvass, or a petition drive that includes text messaging consent language
You reply to a message we send you
You give your number to a staff member or volunteer who records your consent
Consent to receive text messages is never a condition of signing up to volunteer, receiving email, making a contribution, signing a petition, or receiving any other service from us. You can always submit any of our forms without agreeing to text messages.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
4. How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
Send you information about Proposition 1, the campaign, and the election
Send reminders about voter registration deadlines, early voting, absentee ballots, and Election Day
Invite you to events, volunteer shifts, and trainings
Ask for contributions and process contributions you choose to make
Respond to questions you send us
Record and honor your communication preferences, including opt-outs
Understand which messages are effective, in aggregate, so we can improve our outreach
Comply with legal obligations, including campaign finance reporting.
We send messages only between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the recipient's local time zone.
5. Sharing your information
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All of the categories of information described in this policy exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
We do not sell, rent, trade, or exchange mobile phone numbers or text messaging consent data with any other organization, committee, campaign, vendor, or affiliate for their own use.
We share information only in these limited circumstances:
Service providers. We use vendors to operate our text messaging program, including our messaging platform, our CRM or voter contact database, and our payment processor. These vendors may access your information only to perform services for us, are bound by contract to keep it confidential, and may not use it for their own purposes.
Staff and authorized volunteers. Trained staff and volunteers acting on our behalf may see your number and your prior conversation in order to reply to you.
Legal compliance. We may disclose information when required by law, subpoena, court order, or to comply with campaign finance reporting obligations (see Section 8).
Safety. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to protect the safety of any person, or to investigate threats, fraud, or abuse.
6. Opting out and getting help
To stop receiving messages, reply STOP to any message from us. You may also reply QUIT, END, CANCEL, UNSUBSCRIBE, OPT-OUT, or REVOKE.
We will send one confirmation message and will not send you further messages under that program unless you opt back in. Opt-out requests are honored promptly and are recorded permanently so that you are not re-added.
You may also opt out by emailing field@idahoansunited.com or writing to us at the address in Section 12.
For help, reply HELP to any message, or contact us at field@idahoansunited.com.
Opting out of text messages does not remove you from other communications, such as email or mail. To opt out of those, contact us directly.
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
7. Data retention
We retain mobile numbers and associated information for as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, and as required by law.
Opt-out records are retained indefinitely so that we can continue to honor your request. Some states require opt-out records to be honored for as long as ten years.
Contribution records are retained as required by Idaho campaign finance law.
Other message and response data is deleted or de-identified when it is no longer needed for campaign purposes.
8. Contributions and public disclosure
If you make a contribution to us, Idaho law may require us to report your name, mailing address, occupation, and employer to the Idaho Secretary of State, where it becomes part of the public record. Your mobile phone number is not included in these public reports.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including access controls limiting who on our team can view contact data. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children
Our text messaging program is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly enroll anyone under 16 years old. If you believe we have a minor's number, contact us at field@idahoansunited.com and we will remove it.
11. Your choices and rights
You may at any time:
Opt out of text messages (Section 6)
Ask us what information we hold about you
Ask us to correct inaccurate information
Ask us to delete your information, subject to legal retention requirements
To make a request, contact us at field@idahoansunited.com.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this policy. The current version will always be posted at [unitedforyes.com/sms-privacy] with the date it was last updated. Material changes will be noted on that page.
